After having spent four successful days at the transport logistic trade fair in Munich (4 – 7 June 2019), the Soloplan trade fair team returned to Kempten in a very good mood. The transport logistic trade fair lived up to its reputation as the world’s largest intermodal logistics hub: “The number of exhibitors increased by 10 percent to 2,374 and the number of visitors by 5 percent to around 64,000,” says Stefan Rummel, managing director of Messe München.
We, too, can confirm this trend considering the many interested people visiting our stand.
At this year’s trade fair, Soloplan focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence in transport planning, thus once again setting a new trend in the industry: Many people only talk about this topic. We, on the other hand, have already been able to present the new machine learning functions integrated into our transport management system CarLo to the general public.
The machine learning process in CarLo is as follows: Transport planning data, such as the shipment mode, date, departure, destination, loading items, loading weight and dangerous goods, is fed into the system and processed by an algorithm. The algorithm enables CarLo to “learn” the dispatcher’s behaviour and to create a model based on which future tours are planned automatically in accordance with the rules learned.
The advantages of using machine learning for transport planning are obvious: It saves the dispatcher a lot of time, helps avoid mistakes and increases efficiency considerably. Another important advantage is that knowledge is no longer lost in the case of personnel changes. Since CarLo learns the required behaviour based on training data, a new dispatcher, for example, can plan tours in the same way as a long-term employee. All data remains with the customer at all times. Furthermore, the pipeline adapts to changing business requirements as the model is further trained with new transport orders.
A presentation on this topic was held at the Soloplan stand three times a day.
However, visitors showed great interest not only the in the groundbreaking innovations that we presented, but also in our well-proven products. Soloplan’s logistics software CarLo and the software’s add-ons are exactly the solutions that are in demand on the market.
