Since 2009, Soloplan’s logistics software CarLo has been integrated ever deeper into the daily business
at Förster Transport – and today, the company’s partners profit from it, too.
“Six years ago, we switched to a new transport software,” explains Robert Förster, CEO of the 47-staff strong company
from Groß-Enzersdorf near Vienna, which employs 38 drivers. “As part of the realisation of a new project, it was recommended to us that we switch to the logistics solution by Soloplan.” While at first, the company only used the basic modules for Planning, Master data management, and Invoicing, today’s business would be unthinkable without
the software. “Not least because I had always been looking for an all-in-one solution from a competent partner,”
Graphical transport planning
The company’s fleet comprises 25 semi-trucks from MAN, Mercedes and Scania – 70 per cent category Euro 6
– as well as swap bodies, delivery vehicles, semi-trucks and special semi-trailers. Apart from their speciality
– refrigerated transports – they also carry machines and dangerous goods. While the company covers the regions Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland with its own fleet, Förster has access to a broad network of reliable partners for the other regions and also international transportation.
CarLo is meant to support the workflow from calculating quotations via order management right through to transport planning, freight invoicing and statistics and thereby making efficient planning, controlling and monitoring of transports easier. Help comes in the form of graphical transport planning with a resource allocation plan, restriction tests and event management functionality, the handling of direct, broken and intermodal freight transports, the creation of all necessary freight documents and invoices including their automated electronic transfer, or the integrated Loading Unit Management feature.
Meanwhile, Robert Förster Jr. is responsible for the IT systems. Just last year, he joined his father’s company, after completing his degree in transport and logistics management, and now they run the business together. What impresses him most is CarLo’s flexibility. “It allows us to provide our partners with customised reports. Thanks to the wealth of data, we can even handle the entire logistical management process for our customers.” Moreover, the large number of interfaces even make specialised external solutions compatible. Soloplan’s support represents another major plus point. “The programme gets regular updates, which always work like clockwork.” Apart from that, the phone support should not remain unmentioned, which, thanks to the possibility to directly talk with the development department, worked perfectly.
Keeping track of cost centres
Apart from the main programme, Förster also uses CarLo inMOTION for fleet management and detailed vehicle cost calculation. The latter in particular is one
of the tool’s most important functions. Costs, such as repairs, vignettes or car washes are continuously recorded in keeping with the individual cost centres,
while mass data, such as refuelling, are automatically imported through interfaces.
A VPN connection even enables sub-partners to access their relevant orders in CarLo, as well as to transfer and read data. Not only did this help to achieve a certain standard but also ensures continuous data capture. Robert Förster is well aware that he has certainly not opted for the cheapest solution, “but first-class support,
the flexibility of the software suite, and a top-quality database definitely justify that.”
