Interview with Josef Dischner | CEO of forwarding agency Dischner.
The forwarding agency Dischner is located in Eastern Bavaria and serves customers in Germany (approx. 75%) and neighbouring European countries (approx. 25%). They transport partial and full loads, most of the time with tarp jumbos and, especially for the weekends, they try to plan their vehicles to get back home. For many years now, the transport company has been pursuing the goal to not only meet the special requirements of their customers, but to also always initiate new processes by constant changes. The specialisation of their fleet and increasing networking at all levels contribute to the company’s success in this area. Most recently, this networking has been intensified through the integration of CarLo inTOUCH. CEO, Josef Dischner, gave us the opportunity to ask a few specific questions on the topic:
How long have you been using CarLo and since when have you been using CarLo inTOUCH?
We have used Soloplan software for more than 20 years now, and in daily business we could not do without CarLo anymore. After some less than satisfying alternative experiences, we switched communication in all vehicles to CarLo inTOUCH at the end of 2015. The launch was quick and smooth. Even only a short time after its introduction, nobody wanted to miss the CarLo inTOUCH platform anymore.
Which telematics-related logistics processes are you handling with CarLo inTOUCH? Do you also use other telematics solutions in combination?
CarLo inTOUCH ensures the complete tracking of every consignment and all information, from the one-time entry to the transfer of address data to the navigation by the driver. The product provides a level of functionality in the vehicle not previously known. The driver is connected live with dispatch, so to speak. Short-term changes of all kinds are quickly transferred to the vehicle, like for example also regarding the tour sequence. Thanks to the messages related to the stops, the work in dispatch or within CarLo has significantly improved as well. The dispatcher knows at any time what the driver is currently doing, because the status messages of CarLo inTOUCH are directly considered by dispatch. This means the first step towards workflow automation in dispatch has been accomplished. We no longer use different, additional or alternative telematics solutions since the introduction of CarLo inTOUCH.
How many vehicles have you equipped with a mobile telematics solution?
Within a short time, we have equipped all vehicles that are used in daily business with CarLo inTOUCH. At the moment that is about 60.
What are the most convincing features?
We especially like about CarLo inTOUCH that is does not require specific hardware. Also, it is quickly set up and does without complicated interfaces, the product is flexible and offers a functionality not previously known. In a way, communication with the driver has been redefined.
What will the future bring? Are you planning to integrate further CarLo add-ons?
In the future, data exchange will be even more detailed, not only with the driver. And I’m not only thinking about possible return values of CarLo inTOUCH, but also about the communication with the customer taking a step to a new level. The link between the office and the driver I talked about at the beginning should already start with the customer. This should not end with the transfer of location data on their consignments. Complete synchronisation, from order placement or order entry by the customer on consignment level, to the automated online confirmation after successful delivery, is one of our next major challenges. For this and many other tasks, Soloplan offers another solution in the form of CarLo exCHANGE, which we are currently evaluating. The fact that Soloplan software gives us everything from one source is reassuring – not only with regards to the CarLo platform.
