Partial Load

A partial load in the context of logistics means that a consignment of goods does not fully utilise the freight capacity of the means of transport in terms of its size. Thus, they are usually transported together with one or more other partial loads. These kinds of transports can be carried out with all means of traffic and the designation refers to the corresponding transport container (truck loading space, container, etc.). A partial load transported by truck is also referred to as LTL (Less that Truck Load), transported by container as LCL (Less than Container Load).

In contrast to full loads, they entail greater organisational effort for the logistics sector. Furthermore, they have a longer run time due to the greater number of goods receivers and the additional stops.
