In the freight business, freight refers to the remuneration/price for the carriage of goods. The amount of this remuneration is regulated in the freight contract. Alternative terms are freight charges, freight rates or carriage charge. Freight only includes the pure transport costs. Costs such as loading charges, cartage fees, taxes, customs duties, etc. are added separately.
Colloquially, “freight” refers to the cargo itself, i.e. the goods to be transported.
