Area Forwarder

In procurement logistics, a regional forwarder/a regional forwarding company takes over the collection of individual deliveries from a region in order to transport them, bundled into one load, to the city/area of destination. The transport is usually carried out via truck or train; the bundling is carried out based on different criteria–often on postcodes.

In contrast to the transport of grouped loads, with the area forwarder, all consignments are destined for the same receiver. This means that there is no need for splitting or fine distribution of consignments for different receivers.

Advantages of a regional forwarder:

  • Number of empty trips is reduced
  • Number of return loads is increased
  • Fewer trips & vehicles required overall
  • Individual means of transport are used more efficiently
  • Lower transport costs
