Goods Distribution Centre

A goods distribution centre is a logistics centre where goods are sorted between different modes of transport (road, rail, air, water), reloaded and bundled according to destinations. The main objective is that incoming goods are sorted based on their destinations in order to optimally coordinate the trips.

Another service is the temporary storage of goods for up to one week. The centre links different modes of transport, transport companies (warehousing companies, forwarders) and trading companies.

The term goods distribution centre is often used synonymously with freight centre. An essential difference is that the focus of goods distribution centres lies in the connection of local and long-distance traffic. Furthermore, in contrast to the freight centre, the goods distribution centre is usually used by only one company.
